Tips for Managing Mental Health

In March 2023, I was invited to give a talk to local business owners about mental health.

I presented how it can affect people in different ways and what happens to us psychologically and how it can start to manifest physically in the body from an Ayurvedic perspective.

I also gave a few tips on how we can help support those facing a challenging time:

  • Listen to one another and avoid judgement wherever possible. If someone needs to talk, sometimes they just need to get stuff out of their system. They may not be seeking advice, but simply they need the space to clear their emotions to allow them to think more clearly again. Allowing someone to speak their mind, without fear of being judged is one of the best things we can do to support someone in a challenging situation. It can help to alleviate some of the suffering they are going through and allow them to create that space where they can start to discover the answers that are already within them.

  • Support alleviation of physical symptoms with herbs and appropriate diet to break the vicious physical-psychological cycle. With the guidance of a qualified and experienced practitioner, of course!

  • Turn off your TV and allow yourself to move into a higher vibrational state. We are all beings made from energy at the end of the day. Many of the things that are bombarded at us by the TV, radio, social media are designed to keep us in a low vibrational state of fear and anxiety. The best thing that I ever did was stop watching the news and listening to the radio to help get myself into a better mental state. Give it a go, you will see yourself change and begin to see things from a whole other perspective!

  • Get out in nature. Enjoy the outdoors and appreciate what Mother Earth has provided for us. Nature can help us find the calmness and peacefulness

  • BREATHE CONSCIOUSLY! Focus on the breath. When you find yourself in a testing or anxious situation, bring your focus back to you breath. A deep breath in, and a slightly longer, deep breathe out. Do this 4-5 times to start with and you can slowly build up your breathe work practice from here.

May all beings everywhere be happy and free.
